Alpana is a reinterpretation of a traditional art form the sacred floor drawings created using rice paste, marking auspicious moments and ceremonial spaces.
Here, that heritage is reimagined in handwoven Ikat, set against a base of 100% handspun Tussar silk, and crafted in Odisha by master artisans. The body of the sari features a repeating triangular Ikat motif, inspired by the sharp geometry often found in Alpana designs. Each form is not printed, but dyed into the yarn before weaving, using the resist dye method that Ikat is known for.
It’s a conversation between cultures, sacred languages, interpreted on Odisha’s looms, through the timeless materiality of Tussar.
